Enjoying Food in Pangkal Pinang - Bangka

I remember two years ago, while waiting for my flight to Pangkal Pinang at Soekarno Hatta airport, I met a friend with his family waiting for the same flight. He told me that he was going to have a holiday with his kiddos in Pangkal Pinang. That time, I was surprised that my friend choose Pangkal Pinang as his holiday destination.

On my second visit in 2013, I realised that Pangkal Pinang has lots to offer that this city is now on my bucketlist to travel with my family someday. Beside the beautiful beach, the city offers great food to enjoy!

1. Seafood in Pangkal Pinang: RM Asui

Arriving in Pangkal Pinang around 11 am, we went directly to Rumah Makan Asui serving best seafood in town. Although very famous, the restaurant is located in a narrow lane. But don't judge the restaurant by its exterior, come inside, and you will love the food.

the famous RM Asui

The best dish of RM Asui Pangkal Pinang for me is the grilled Tenggiri, with the spice on top of the fish. It's not too spicy, so you can mix the spice with the hot rice. Hmm.. it is a must have!

Other than that try the fish soup, its sour soup taste different than Tom Yum, but really fresh to have, especially after my flight from Jakarta.

2. Otak-otak in Pangkal Pinang

For Otak-otak (fish cake) lover, Pangkal Pinang is heaven. Two most famous otak-otak seller are Ase and Amui. And of course, I visited both:p

Otak-otak are sold each for IDR 2,000. You may choose the grilled one, the fried one or the steamed one.

Otak-otak Amui located on Jalan Melintas, the place is less crowded than Kedai Otak-otak Ase, but both are yummy. I couldn't choose which one is better, for me both taste good.

3. Pempek in Pangkal Pinang

My friend recommended Pempek Sumber Rasa as the best pempek in Pangkal Pinang. It cost IDR 2,500 each for the little pempek. Being a wife of a Palembangnese, I can taste whether pempek is good or so-so. And this pempek Sumber Rasa is a good one, really.

As a bonus of visiting Pempek Sumber Rasa, we also ordered Es Campur Ayong at the opposite of Pempek Sumber Rasa. It was a perfect match: pempek and es campur for our afternoon snack.

4. Peranakan Cuisine in Pangkal Pinang: Pauw's Kopitiam

a different touch in Pangkal Pinang: Pauw's Kopitiam

Pauw's Kopitiam located only a short drive from Parai beach, in one area called Sungailiat. We went there after enjoying the beach, so it was an early dinner for us.

The most recommended dish here was the Kwetiau Siram Sapi (beef noodle), served with lots of vegetable. I ordered the Kwetiau Sapi as recommended by my friend, and yes it was really nice.

My friend ordered Chicken Steamed Rice and orange juice, also taste very good. If you are staying overnight at Parai Beach, I would recommend to have dinner at this resto. Good food with at an affordable price.

One food I didn't try was the famous Martabak Bangka. We were too full to try the Martabak after our dinner at Pauw's Kopitiam. Hmm... having shared this post with you, I really want to go back to Pangkal Pinang and try all the food all over again.
