This is a must visit place while you are in Makassar, the Somba Opu market, where you can find cheap Makassar souvenirs. We went there at 8 pm, many shops were closed already, only few shops were opened. Our driver took us to one shop called Sulawesi Art Shop. I was intended to buy Minyak Kayu Putih for my friends, but ended up buying tshirt and Makassar snacks as well:p
There were many types of Minyak Kayu Putih sold here. The owner of the shop asked me whether I prefer the "super" or "standard" one. I asked him which was the best for babies. He explained that the super one might be too strong for babies, and recommended me to buy the standard one. The big bottle was IDR 70,000. Other than that they also sell Minyak Tawon, Minyak Beruang and you name it...you can find all here, very cheap.
The shop sells also Makassar Sarong, as well as Makassar snacks. My fave is the peanut, the big size was only IDR 17,500. And I checked it at the airport, the price was doubled.
Somba Opu located near the Losari Beach, so you may go to Losari after you shop here.
