Review of Aston Hotel Belitung

It was our second visit to Belitung, and we were so happy that now Aston Hotel is already opened. Having stayed at Lor Inn and Bahamas Hotel before, this time we wanted to stay at Aston. Yup the picture of the pool on their website looks very inviting.

Compared to other two hotels that we had stayed before, this one is a very busy hotel. If you wish to stay in a peaceful area, this hotel is not the one you are looking for. 

We entered the huge lobby with a fishpond near the reception area. However, do not expect the same friendliness of the hotel staff as you might find in any other Aston Hotel. Something that Aston Belitung Management has to workout on.

The Room

If you plan to stay at Aston Belitung, booking early is advised. The hotel is always fully booked during weekend. Our superior room cost us IDR 600,000 per night, including tax and breakfast for the four of us. We made the reservation through their website, and got a 10% off with the "bookdirect" promotion code. If your budget allows, better to choose the seaview room.

The room was spacious with a great king bed that surprisingly enough for the four of us:p Too bad, upon arrival we found the bedsheet was dirty. It was the only hotel I have ever stayed in, that I requested to change the bedsheet. The hotel staff came 5 minutes after receiving our request over the phone, and change the bed sheet. Aside from this, I have no other complaint about the room.

The Pool

Yes Aston Hotel Belitung has a breathaking pool, but it is only a small swimming pool which is always full with people. We managed to come early from our island hopping, and at that time the pool was empty. In the morning, the pool was really full. So it's not the kind of pool where you could swim, it's only a pool to take a dip and to enjoy the view.

The Lunch

We arrived around 1 pm at the hotel, and because our room was not ready, we had our lunch first at the resto. I might say the food was really nice until we found papers on our soup! We complained to the waiters and the chef, James approached us to apologise.

James became our friend since then, he was the only hotel staff having "Aston standard" The waiters were not friendly, and they were not professional at all. We asked for tomato ketchup and instead of bringing the bottle, the waiter brought us our bill. Oh my goodness. Really, I didn't compare the hospitality with Bali's standard, they were just below the average standard.

The Breakfast

It was the busiest time in Aston hotel, so please be ready to get up early in the morning to have your breakfast. The food was good with so many varieties for the breakfast.

The Location

Aston is located about 5-10 minutes drive to the city center, 40 minutes drive to Tanjung Tinggi beach, and 30 minutes drive to Tanjung Kelayang where the boat start for island hopping trip.

There's a family restaurant nearby, and a shop where you could buy souvenirs and local food/snacks to take home.

Yes, it is located just next to the beach called Tanjung Pendam, but you can't swim there. 

I like the location of Lor In hotel better where we could just cross the road and swim on the beach. I hope Lor In has rennovated their rooms, because when we stayed there, the room was terrible.

Overall our stay was ok, just remember to lower down your expectation. Other thing to keep in mind, there's only two small elevators for the whole guests. So on the peak time, you may have to wait about 10 minutes just to take the elevator. Phew!
